If you are one of the early adopters of the Windows 8 Developers Preview version and happen to own an iOS device, you probably might have faced this issue: the non detection of the device on iTunes.

I did a couple of searches but it was after much effort and patience that I came upon this fix. So here’s how to do it.

1) Press Windows+R on your keyboard.

2) Type “services.msc” and press enter. This will open up your services.

3) Now find “Apple Mobile Device” from the list.

4) Stop Apple Mobile Device”. To stop, press the “stop” link on the left as seen in the image above. (Make sure iTunes is closed before stopping the service).

5) Now plug your iOS device in. Wait for the charging to start. (Usually, 2-3 secs at most).

6) Now, start Apple Mobile Device” service which you’ve stopped in step 4 above.

7) Open iTunes

Now iTunes should detect your device.

Note:

a) During Sync you may get an “Unable to receive data from sync services” but it should sync anyway.
b) iTunes will not respond and you may need to restart your system if you open it after plugging your device in but before restarting the Apple Mobile Device service.
